SEO and Flash Common Ranking Tips
Monday, May 19th, 2008Use these tips when you want to keep your FLASH website:
Provide links to alternative pages on your website that contain valid HTML and text that contain your targeted keywords and phrases.
Place some text around your Flash movie (.swf) that contain your target keywords and phrases for your SEO campaign.
Name your FLASH file according to your keywords. e.g. “Web-Design.swf”
Use the <object standby=”enter some copy here”> attribute and include some copy that will display while the movie loads.
Use the <object title=”My Keyword Rich Title Goes Here”> attribute to use a title that includes your targeted keywords and phrases.
The <noembed> tag can be used to provide copy for web browsers which don’t support the Flash plug in. Describe the contents of your Flash movie in that area because search engines are able to index that description.
Make use of internal linking from your HTML only pages that link to your Flash pages. Be sure to include your keywords in the link to the flash page.
Seperate SWF files into seperate web pages. Don’t build an entire website using one SWF file. Not only will this help with SEO, it will allow uses to bookmark and link to individual web pages of your site.
Flash 8 has support for XMP metadata which helps supports issues with Search Engine support and caching problems. If your using FLASH 8, enter the Title and Description Fields in the modify document properties panel. Some search engines are not able to support this function as of yet, but we would suggest that you start this common practice now to be prepared for the future of SEO and Flash.
